Inquiry For Embodiment

Becoming what you know

Unforuntately, knowing isn't even close to half the battle.

One of the tragic consequences of our broken educational system is the false notion that mere understanding leads to human fulfillment. Understanding is only the beginning.

After learning all the dates, facts, and figures in traditional schooling, we arrive on the doorstep of adulthood with the illusion that understanding makes a difference in the real world.

This is why most leaders can devour business book after book, but not improve the way they manage. This is why there is no shortage of insight and wisdom in our world, yet it remains a mess. This is why the internet, the most powerful and available library our species has ever known, co-exists with our current decline of civilization.

Information doesn't make a difference. Embodiment does.

There's an old Zen saying, "To know and not to be is not to truly know."

Knowing is our comfort zone. Investigation into how we don't live what we know is decidedly uncomfortable. It can be humiliating, but that's a pain that closes what I call the "embodiment gap." This is the gap between who you think you are and how you actually show up. We're all works in progress and no one is perfect, but few of us actively explore those imperfections with soulful honesty and humility.

This course is about closing your embodiment gap by examining your blind spots, where they come from, and bringing compassion to why they're there. This is how you close the gap and become what you know. It isn't easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is.

Since I first trained as a business coach at EMyth in 2002, I’ve been a change agent for thousands of business leaders and managers. Coaching is a fast-growing industry, but it's also very young. I'm a perennial student and never satisfied with the pace of human change because I think we can do better. For me, it’s an unsolved mystery and the needless suffering inside workplaces around the world hangs in the balance. It affects us all. Learn more at clearandopen.com.
